'Newspaper is a magical medium because it already holds meaning — unlike a blank page, it invites reaction, collaboration, and transformation. It unlocks creativity in anyone, as painting on newspaper feels natural and unrestrictive — nothing is wasted; it’s only newspaper.

I discovered this medium while living with my grandparents on Matakana Island, where art supplies were scarce. One day, I found a long silver fish washed ashore, still alive, its wide, unblinking eye staring back at me. In that moment, I heard it tell me to paint it on newspaper — something I had never considered before. I went home, painted the fish on a newspaper, and never stopped.
